Welcome to Poem Shorts. In a world that moves faster than ever, finding the time to read lengthy anthologies can be difficult. Yet, the need for beautiful words—to celebrate a wedding, to mourn a loss, or simply to caption a moment—has never been greater.
Our Mission
We believe that poetry shouldn't be hidden in dusty library books. It should be accessible, shareable, and relevant to modern life. Our mission is to curate:
- Concise Verses: Poems that pack a punch in under 20 lines.
- Occasion-Based Curation: Finding the exact right words for speeches and toasts.
- Modern & Classic Mix: Blending Rumi and Dickinson with contemporary voices.
"Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words." — Robert Frost
The Poem Shorts Editors
Every collection on this site is curated by the Poem Shorts Editors — a small team of poetry readers and writers who have spent years with these verses, from Persian mystics to Instagram poets. We are the byline you see on every article, and we stand behind every selection.
How We Curate
- Attribution first: Classic poems are credited to their authors, and translations are noted where the words belong to the translator (many popular Rumi versions are Coleman Barks' renderings, not literal translations — we fact-check the most shared quotes here).
- Original writing: Poems credited to "Poem Shorts" are written in-house for this collection. We never re-label someone else's poem as our own.
- Real-world testing: Our occasion pieces (vows, toasts, card verses) are written to be read aloud, so we test them for rhythm and breath, not just appearance on the page.
- Dates you can trust: Each article shows its original publication date and its latest revision date. When we update a collection, we say so.
